Eruption of Mt. Tongoriro

Eruption of Mt. Tongoriro.

Yesterday on 21st November Mt. Tongoriro erupted in the clear blue sky. All that the people could see was a big ash cloud in the sky. The eruption lasted for five minutes. There was a group of school kids from an Intermediate school. One child cried out “Look” and everybody turned to see this huge cloud of black smoke. They were very scared. The smoke went up to about 3 kilometers in the sky so air flights were cancelled for low flying planes because the smoke will wreck the rotors on the plane. The people are warned not to go close to the mountain because it might erupt again. This shows us that we do we do not know enough about volcanic eruptions.

Tongue Twisters!! by Room 3

WALT read tongue twisters out loud with expression.

We have been reading a very funny tongue twister this week about a baby sitter that tries to make fritter with bitter butter. She fails so buys some sweeter batter and tries again!

We have recorded ourselves reading a few versus for you to watch. Enjoy!

The Manaiakalani Film Festival by Mavis

In term two we were learning how to make movies that influence our world. We learnt a lot about the movie making process

Room 8 also got the opportunity to ask some real movie makers about their experiences and get some tips to take our movies to the next level. Jayden created this presentation sharing movie magic tips. We celebrated our Movie Magic term with our very own Tamaki Primary Academy Awards.

Our class movie, 30 Things, will be played at The Manaiakalani Film Festival today. We wanted our movie to help children find fun activities to do after school. We chose this message because we wanted to help kids stay out of trouble.

We made our movie in a fun way so that kids our age can understand it. Most of the advertisements for staying out of trouble are aimed at teenagers or adults. We also wanted the kids to learn this message at a young age.

The Manaiakalani Film Festival by Losana

Room 3 has made a movie about honesty. It will be played at The Manaiakalani Film Festival today. Honesty means telling the truth whether you get into trouble or not. Honesty is the best policy.

We are very excited to see our movie on the Extreme Screen at Sylvia Park. Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards.

The Manaiakalani Film Festival by Michael

Room 4 thought it would be awesome to think about what we might like to be when we grow up.  When we grow up there are lots of things we could do and be. We had lots of fun making our movie, dressing up in the different costumes and learning the dances.

We learnt that it is important to think about what you might want to be when you grow up and there are lots of choices. I was very interested to find out more about Martin Luther King. He was a man who was responsible for his actions.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards.

School is Cool Reported by Cypress

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.

Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.
